Free Legal Rebels Webinar: Why Twitter Matters to Lawyers
24 Hours
You’ve heard about Twitter. You may have even visited the site. But how can lawyers – a prolix group, if ever there was one – stand to benefit from a micro-blogging service that limits messages to 140 characters?
To explain how Twitter is radically changing the dynamic of marketing attorneys, LexBlog CEO & Publisher Kevin O'Keefe led a free webinar as part of our 24 Hours of Rebels event. Kevin is the founder of LexTweet, one of the most complete lists of lawyers who use Twitter.
In the webinar, O'Keefe addressed the following:
• How is Twitter being used by attorneys and other industry leaders today?
• Who are some of the "big guns" in the legal industry using Twitter? What are some examples of how they use it?
• Which Twitter applications are worthwhile and which are lame?
• What are some etiquette tips on using Twitter for professional social networking?
The event was held Wednesday, October 14, at 1 pm ET (Noon CT, 10 a.m. PT).
There is no archive of the program, but see this related essay from O'Keefe: "Smart Lawyers Will Use Twitter for Client Development"

I use Twitter. But I use Twitter with a suitably entertaining (I think) screen-name. I use Twitter, with a suitably entertaining screen-name, mostly as a diversion…an escapist diversion, if you will. My most ardent followers are law marketers and the like. I am not sure that my tweets necessarily always have much to do with actual law, nor am I sure if I entertain anyone on the lookout for ‘legal’ tweets of such interest that they would in fact chose to follow me for that reason - I tweet about whatever takes my fancy. I cannot quite yet begin to see how the sort of law I practice could benefit from Twitter. Twitter is fun…tremendous fun sometimes even. I have some exceptional followers from the academic and business worlds, and beyond - people I likely wouldn’t engage with other than because of Twitter. I like Twitter (up to six hours a week when I can or when I can be bothered), but I don’t see how work could be referred to me from Twitter.

Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP (based out of Atlanta) now has its own Twitter site. We tweet or retweet at least once a day and gain followers each week. We are learning, as everyone else is, how to best use Twitter to promote our lawyers, firm events, big news in the legal world, community service activities, and have fun while doing it. It’s an adventure that we are enjoying participating in.
