Video Tour Diary Day 8: ‘Merry Band of Litigators’ & the Story Within the Story
Tour
Another late night, followed by an early morning made getting right back in the tour vehicle a little rough.
But we were caffeinated and wide awake by the time we rolled into Arlington, Va., the home of the Institute for Justice, which touts itself as the nation's only libertarian public interest law firm.
We met with our Rebel of the Day: Chip Mellor, the IJ's president and general counsel. He talked about how the firm uses humor and a large dose of irreverence to draw attention to issues they care about. That's not to say this legal team is all comedy and no action -- they take their cases very seriously. But, they don't take themselves too seriously. And that makes the office a great place to work day in and day out.
It's also worth noting that we increased our entourage numbers during the IJ visit. Virginia State Bar President John D. Huddleston (@VA4GoodLawyers), with camerawoman in tow, met up with us to talk new media in the legal profession. And so did Patrick Dowd, a reporter from Legal Bisnow.
More on our Arlington visit, our new quarters in the District, etc. in our video short:

A really good point there by Rachel. I, too, have found it difficult to find songs about DC.
On the musical front, I do have some helpful thoughts for the crew if they are still looking for a song to perform for us. As a quartet, the crew could split up into two duos, and with a song such as “Bicycle Built for Two,” Ed and John could do the gentleman’s lines, and Molly and Rachel the lady’s lines. Same would work in a nice Scottish piece such as “Leezie Lindsay.”
Sorry to learn of Molly’s tour injury (potentially very serious for a keyboarding journalist), but it is good to see the rest of the crew is taking care of her.
